Have you ever thought about what plants are important to people and why? Some plants are useful because they provide food or medicine. Others are important because they might represent good luck or feature in favourite stories.

Many countries choose a plant or flower which they use to represent them. These are called national flowers.

In India, the national flower is the lotus. It is important among different religions and is often depicted in South Asian art.

Each part of the United Kingdom has a national flower. If you watch sport you might have noticed these flowers on the team’s kit.

Make a wall display of your findings. Label a world map with flower pictures.
