Art and ICT

All these activities use ICT to an extent – especially ‘Buying pictures’ – by searching the database for images. To extend the ICT potential, you could use the images to create PowerPoint presentations, perhaps based on the stories that the paintings illustrate. An example has been done for you – click here. [link to Dronacharya.ppt] This uses a painting from The Mahabharata epic. To create your own activities you will need a graphics program, to prepare blank versions of paintings which can then be populated with elements of the story. Symmetry

There are opportunities for symmetry activities, for instance using lotus flowers, drawing the missing half of the flower.

Have a go at making a painting in an Indian style. You can look at other pictures on the website for more ideas.

Look through the picture library on the Plant Cultures website and find your favourite botanical picture (that’s a plant picture done for a scientist) and say why you chose it.

Indian market stall

Make a poster describing some of the food on your stall – where it comes from and what it can be used for, possibly even including a recipe. You can find some in the Activities section of the website, or you can type ‘recipes’ in the search box at the top of the page and see what you get!

Buy some fruit and vegetables from India, arrange them in a bowl or on a table and make a careful ‘still life’ painting of them.

Find a picture in the picture library which would appeal to lots of different buyers and say why you chose it.
