Keystage 2 - Art - Buying pictures
Artists don’t always make pictures because they feel like it. If they make a living as an artist, they usually produce a picture because someone wants to buy it from them. The buyer will not buy the picture if it is not what they want.
In this activity you are going to look at pictures on the website and try to work out who might have ordered them and why. Then you will make your own picture for a customer who knows what he or she wants.

Make your own picture
Now make your own picture of a plant or fruit. First decide who it’s going to be for. Choose from one of the buyers above, or make up your own – perhaps someone learning to read English, or someone who designs fabrics.Think what they would want to see in the picture – it could be bright colour, or simple design, or accurate detail (with labels), or interesting shapes.
When you have finished, make a secret caption for your picture. On the top of the flap write ‘This picture was for…’ and under the flap write down who your buyer was and how you made the picture they would like. Ask your friends to guess who the picture was for and then look under the flap to see if they were right!
