Holy basil in Hindi is Cajd Tulsi

Holy Basil is worshipped in India. There is no ritual complete without tulsi.
Every Hindu house should have a tulsi plant, which is watered daily after morning prayers. After sunset a lamp is lit near the plant.
[It is believed that Holy Basil also has medicinal value and 5 tulsi leaves, if chewed daily in the morning on an empty stomach, is good.
You can also add them to tea water. When I watch Indian programmes on Sky, there is one programme with a woman called Tulsi. She is the peacekeeper in her family. When people enter into her house, they become nicer. The programme resembles the belief that people have in the plant and what it symbolises. The programme has recently got subtitles, so I can watch it with my friend Katie who doesn't understand Hindi.
