Story details
Everything was organic
Lutfun Hussian
My father has a lot of land. We have lots of rice all year. We never buy rice in shops. We have land, we grow rice, and this is our main agriculture. The rice we sold paid for our school and university education for my brother and sister- every one in our family. Half of the people who work with us could either get rice or money to help feed their family.
When my mother was alive, after my father died, she was so clever she organised everything on the land, and she educated my brother and my sister with the money from the rice.
We grew mango, coconut, turmeric, lentils, chilli, garlic, and ginger all over our land and we had lots of marigold flowers. Everything was organic; it was all natural, we never knew about fertilisation.
This story was collected by the Museum of London at workshops with the Coriander Club at Spitalfields Farm, East London.
