Click here for more detailsThese fields are being prepared for a crop of indigo plants. Sowing the seeds would probably have been done directly into the field, although they were sometimes germinated in seed beds being being transplanted. Branches are harvested when the plants are 4 to 5 months old and flowering. The plants can continue to be harvested like this at 3 to 4 months intervals 3 times a year. The total life span of a crop can be 2 to 3 years.
