Engraving on paper. An overseer looking on, as others work picking plants and carrying sacks on a pole. The green leaves of the indigo plant are soaked in water and beaten to release the dark blue dye. The leaves are then removed and the blue sludge dried into indigo cakes ready for market. The lettering reads; The Indigo Manufactory. 1 Vat. 2 Pounding tub. 3 Receiver. 4 The waterfiltrating. 5 Indigo plants. 6 Indians carrying Do. in sacks. 7 Drying cases. 8 Indians carrying Indigo to the drying cases.
