These roots were donated to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society collection by Prof. Jonathan Pereira (1804 - 1853), pharmacologist, physician and author of The Elements of Materia Medica and Therapeutics. The roots were collected in the state of Bengal, an area now divided between India and Bangladesh.
