Click here for more detailsJaggery is raw sugar from plants in the palm family. It is made by evaporating sap collected from inflorescences. The India Museum in London was formed by the East India Company in 1801 to display artefacts, natural history specimens and illustrations from the Indian subcontinent. The India Museum acquired this sample from the Madras Government Museum, which was established in the 1850s and is now called the Government Museum Chennai.
