Jamil's Foodstore, Bradford

Iftikhar Ahmed
My name is Iftikhar Ahmed. Me and my family own the fruit shop Jamil Food Store. It's on 56 Oak Lane, Bradford 9. And my dad, he used to work in Bingley Mill when I left school, and he put me in the shop. I started the shop running. And we've been running and it's been going alright since we opened in 1977. And up to now it's going well. And it's a big shop now and me and my family work in the shop. And it's alright - family business - nice. And I've been working about 20 years now in the same shop now, and it's going nice.
Yes we do all English fruits as well and our own Asian vegetables and fruits as well - mangos, guavas and melons and vegetables: okra and kerela - everthing. We go to St James Market on Wakefield Rd, my brother goes every morning ,six days Mon to Sat and we buy all the fresh fruit and vegetables from there. Its quite hard work, we work about 12 hours a day morning till late night - eight o'clock - and seven days as well.
