Sections of betel nuts have been cut to shape and strung on metal rods to make these walking sticks. Dr Wallich (1785-1854) was a botanist and spent many years of his life in India. Soon after he arrived, the East India Company appointed him to assist William Roxburgh at the Royal Botanic Garden in Calcutta.
