Click here for more detailsThe woman in this model is cleaning the cotton bolls using a foot roller to remove the seeds from the soft fibres (lint). The next stage in cotton production is to spin the fibres to produce thread. The model was on display at the India Museum in London, formed by the East India Company in 1801. The Museum was closed in 1879 and its collections dispersed among the London Museums and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. The original origin of this object is unclear, it has been recorded as coming from Desnoor but no record of this place has been found.
