Click here for more detailsWe do not have any record of which dyes have been used to colour this cotton. It is likely that they are natural dyes, the dark blue could be from indigo leaves and the yellow from turmeric rhizomes. The cotton came to the India Museum in London from the Madras Social Committee. The Museum was closed in 1879 and its collections dispersed among the London Museums and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
