Using the website in museums and gardens

The Plant Cultures website is a rich resource for education and interpretation in gardens, museums and community centres, and at events such as melas. Its materials - text, activity sheets, stories and images - are freely available for use in signs, information sheets, activity sheets and similar materials.

Suggested uses

Potential uses include:

  • Creating a plant trail with South Asian plants
  • Offering children's activities using Asian plant materials
  • Arranging an event or activities linked to an Asian festival
  • Promoting a garden at a mela or community event
  • Developing a community project based around art or oral history.

Images

Images on the website are of sufficient quality to allow for office printing on inkjets and some colour laser printers. Please experiment - if you need high-resolution images, let us know.

Permissions and restrictions

Use of website materials is permitted without charge for non-commercial activities at educational establishments, including botanical gardens, heritage centres and museums.The primary restrictions are on use in publicly visible webpages, in publications such as books, and for commercial use. Further details are given on the copyright page.

Credits

Where design considerations allow, we ask that photographs be credited to the photographer (where stated); if no photographer is credited in the website's Picture Library, then the source institution (e.g. Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew) should be credited.

Where possible, we would appreciate prominent use of the Plant Cultures logo and web address (www.plantcultures.org.uk). The Plant Cultures logo is available for download in different formats:

Website text can be used direct from the site, or re-written as wished. However, contributed stories should be used in a format that respects their integrity. Stories can be shortened but not paraphrased, and should be credited to the contributor.

Downloadable signs

Signs suitable for printing at A4 or A3 size are available for 24 species. They are in Microsoft Powerpoint format and can be downloaded or opened individually, or are available as a large zip file (6.3 MB): plantsigns.zip

Signs may be modified as wished, but we would suggest keeping the Plant Cultures name and web address, as this allows visitors to find further information on the plant.
