The museum has displays on Hinduism, Islam and Buddhism (including several fine Gandharan pieces) and other displays drawn from the cultures of the Indian subcontinent, S.E. Asia including Indonesia and the Far East as part of its mankind galleries which also cover Africa, the Pacific Australia and the Americas.

Ipswich Museums Service has created new displays celebrating Sikh culture. These feature weapons, armour and a Sikh battle flag taken at the Battle of Chillianwala in the second Anglo-Sikh war of 1848. The collection includes arms and armour taken by Colonel Thackwell during this war. The Museums Service has also commissioned an innovative seven minute animation of the battle which includes accounts from both British and Sikh sources.
